POLICE COURT

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 4. (Before Mr H. W. Bundle, S.MJ DRUNKENNESS. A first offender was fined 20s in do* fault 24 hours’ imprisonment. CHIMNEYS ON FIRE. Defendant was allowed bail in his own recognisance of £25, subject to his reporting twice daily to the police. FIREARMS OFFENCE. For delivering a firearm to another person without first obtaining a permit, Charles Bower was convicted and ordered to pay court costs (10s). MOTORISTS CHARGED. A charge against Peter Lyders of parking a motor car without lights was dismissed. Charged with operating a motor car without proper brakes attached, John Paul Colloty was fined 30s and costs (3s). Roderick James M'Kcnzie admitted operating a motor cycle without a warning device attached, and was fined 10s and costs. For being an unlicensed motor driver, Keith Mitchell was fined 5s and costs. Henry Langdon pleaded guilty to using a motor car for a purpose other than registered, the facts outlined being that defendant had been persuaded by a friend to take his car to Hyde. The friend had agreed to pay the costs, but did not do so. A lawyer’s letter was sent to the friend, who paid 55.. The defendant said the cost of the trip was 30s. It was stated that the other man would be charged on December 13 with aiding and abetting. The Magistrate convicted the defendant, and adjourned the question of penalty until December 18. Nathaniel Watson Paterson was charged with exceeding the speed limit of 30 miles an hour, and was fined £5 and costs. • Exceeding a speed of 30 miles per hour between Green Island and the city was denied by Francis Morton Bremner (Mr G. V. Murdoch), a motor cyclist, whose offence was described as a pardticuiurly -had one.—The. Magistrate accepted the traffic inspector’s evidence, and fined Bremner £6, the conviction to be endorsed on his license’. Vincent Aitcheson, an unlicensed motorist, was fined 10s and costs. UNREGISTERED DOG. Charged with being in possession of an unregistered dog, Walter Graham Leslie Henderson was fined 20s and costs.
