WATER SUPPLY
DEEP GREEK SCHEME The Water Committee of the City Council states that the city engineer's report on the progress of works in connection with the Deep Creek water supply scheme during the past two weeks shows that during the period 2,002 ft of trenching, 1,920 ft of pipelaying, and 1,923 ft of back-filling were completed. The total length _of pipe 'laid is now 4,685 ft. Forty-nine men are employed by the department on the work. The contractors for the bridge over the Taieri Rhjer have completed all riveting, including deck steel.' The centre pin' castings have been drilled! and bolted up, the centre pins put in, and all wedges removed from the temporary trestles, leaving the bridge work self supported. A start has been made on the placing of the deck timber. Painting of the steel work is proceeding and handrailing posts are being erected. Corporation labour has been _ employed in draining manholes, repairing roads, draining the trench line, etc.
