D.I.C. BALL

The. staff of the D.I.C. held its annual ball on Monday evening in the Concert Chamber, which was simply, but effectively, decorated. Palms and motifs in blue and white, the firm’s colours, were used to decorate the stage, and below was a lavishly appointed lounge for the official party. The guests were received by Misses M'Bride and Knight, who_ acted as hostesses for the evening. Miss M'Bride wore blue de France moire made on Empire. Silhouette lines and having silver accessories, and Miss Knight black cire lace over net with a neckline of gardenias. Mr and Mrs C. T. Lee were chaperons, the latter being gowned in powder blue lace with gold shoes. The guests of the evening were the mayor and Mrs E. T. Cos, the latter wearing nut-brown ring velvet with dull gold relief; Mr Maurice Myers with Mrs Myers in yellow georgette cut on Grecian lines and worn with a shoulder spray; Mr George Crow with Mrs Crow in figured! black silk; Mr Wheatley with Mrs Wheatley ’in gold lame serge with brown velvet accessories; and Mr J. H. Meek with Mrs Meek in Kenya red angel skin lace. Supper was served in the supper room, which was decor-

ated with Iceland poppies and greenery and floating balloons, and where paper hats and numerous small streamers to throw from one person to another created an atmosphere of gaiety. During the evening the lights were lowered, and the spotlights concentrated on a huge bag in the D.I.C. colours suspended from the ceiling. At a given signal a cord was pulled, the bag opened, and down tumbled an avalanche of balloons and confetti. The effect was as pretty as it was novel.
