ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL.
TO THE EDITOR. ' Sir, —Three ironical cheers for the Otago Football Association! After a lapse of 14 years comes the supreme opportunity of staging a match against Australia. And how does the O.F.A. rise to the occasion ? Well aware of the state of the ground after two days of rain and the need for preserving the surface for two big matches in the week, it lets loose two' teams of boys to tear up the turf as a preliminary to the first big event. Could stupidity go further? Apparently so, for two teams of seniors have been appointed to churn up the surface prior to the test match against Australia on Saturday. Surely' the New Zealand Association officials will not stand for this. And can the O.F.A. not think of something less absurd as a uniform for its referees than a pair of shorts and a sac suit coat, varied on Wednesday by a blazer? This impossible combination of garmentSjf-always suggests to mo a man who has got out of bed in a hurry and forgotten something important.—l am, etc., July 3. (Inand Stand.
