CAUGHT IN EARTH FALL
AN EXCAVATION FATALITY [Special to the ' Star.’] OAMARU, June 15. While engaged iu excavation work on the new subway at Deborah, situated about three miles from Oamaru, today, Robert Alfred Warrington, aged 36” a married man with three children, was killed instantaneously by a huge fall of earth. It appears that the men were working on a high bank, and had undermined it preparatory to levering the overhanging portion from the top. Deceased, who was engaged underneath, was working on his own when, without warning, a large portion came down on top of him. When excavated the unfortunate man was dead, and examination revealed terrible injuries to his abdomen, a broken right leg, and head injuries. A similar accident happened at Oamaru three weeks ago, when a relief worker sustained Numerous injuries through being engulfed in a fall of earth which fell prematurely. The injured man’s life was despaired of for a time, but he is now making recovery.
