OBITUARY
SIR JOHN FOSTER FRASER j Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, June 7. (Received June 8, at 10 a.m.) The death is announced of Sir John Foster Fraser. [Sir John Foster Fraser, author,traveller, and lecturer, was born in Edinburgh in 1868. He went through the training of a provincial journalist’s life, and went to London in 1892, where he became a reporter and descriptive writer in the Houses of Parliaments He spent the winter of 1895-96 roam* ing the Mediterranean coast on cargo boats. In 1896 he started with two others to bicycle around the world* which was accomplished in 774 days.He journeyed by train, boat, and sledge through' Siberia, and made a dash across Manchuria (then closed to foreigners), in 1901. He travelled through the United States, Canada, the Balkans* Russia, Australia, New Zealand, the Sahara, Argentina. and post-war •Europe. He was chairman of the Literary Section Faculty of Arts (London)and chief of the Scottish Clans Association (London) in 1932-34. 'The Freedom of the City of London was conferred on Him in 1934. His long list of books included ‘ Round the World on a Wheel,’ ‘ The Real Siberia, ’• < America at Work,’ ‘ Canada as it Is,’. ‘Red Russia,’ ‘The Amazing Argentine,’ and Australia: The Making of a Nation.’ EX-SENATOR DUGGAN Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright * LONDON, June 7.
