MAINLY FINE—ISOLATED SHOWERS The following weather forecast was issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the South* ern districts—Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, Riverton, Orepuki, Bluff, Halfmoon Bay:— A fairly intense anti-cyclone is ad* vancing across the South Tasman Sea,but pressure is low to the south-east of New Zealand, and relatively low also to the north. Forcast: Light to modrate south-westerly winds, freshening at times. Some isolated light showers on the coast, hut otherwise fair to fine. Cold night temperatures, with some hard frosts. Seas moderate. MILD, SUNNY WEEK-END. Scarcely a wisp of cloud flecked an. azure sky throughout the week-end, when over 15J hours’ sunshine was experienced, in comparison with 25min over the same period last week. Last night, however, southerly squalls developed, so that the weather to-day was changeable. By noon it was dark and cold, with a moderate south-west wind, though the barometer was- steady at 30.05 in, three points under Saturday’s high reading. Rain, which has not been recorded since last Thursday, did not appear to be far away, the thermometer improving from 47deg early this morning only to 50.9 deg. Figures fop the whole of yesterday were a maximum of 56.7 deg and a minimum of 46.3 deg, those on Saturday being 53deg and 44.5 deg respectively. No frost was registered in this period.
