ANDERSON’S BAY CEMETERY BUS SERVICE.
TO THE KDITOn. I Sir, —The tramways department has I decided to discontinue this service after I a short trial, simply because it has not | shown a profit immediately. A bus scr- i vice will not pay because the public does I not like having to change, especially I on wet days. Once out of the tram a I big proportion walk, but if the tram I went right on I do not think 1 per | cent, of the people would get out and I walk the rest of the journey. No one | would mind the extra penny from the I present terminus to the cemetery | gates. Our tramway management ■seems to he bus crazy. I wonder why. The Wellington tramways have recently shown a good profit for the year, while their bus services showed a big loss; I do not know anything about running costs, but am quite certain it would be much cheaper to run the trams right to the cemetery, as we now have plenty of electric power. Surely it is better I to spend money in our own country in- I stead of on expensive petrol imported | from other countries. The Tomahawk | road is in a shocking state, and it is I not a very pleasant ride in the bus. I Onr councillors say “ live in the sub- I urbs,” but what inducement do they I give? It is a pity some of our city E heads did not have'to use this road on wet days. We should have a tram in no time. A tramway service is for the convenience of the public, and not for what profit can he made from it. As long ns the service as a whole pays, what more should he needed?—l am, etc.. Tomahawk Road. May 11. _ J
