MINIATURE RIFLE SHOOTING

OTAGO ASSOCIATION The above association opened its champion teams and individual championship for the A, 11, and C grades last week. A recently-formed club to join the association is Ross and Glendining. The members meet every Wednesday night at the Drill Hall, and keen interest in the shooting has been displayed, while some creditable .scores have been recorded for a new club. The practice scores were:—K. Prydo VC, L. Malthas 7G, W. Scott 72, M. Lawson 71, D. Porteous 71, L. Perriman 70, .1. M. S. Ross 70, H. Chapman 70, J. Roberts 63, A. Grigg 62. The Ladies’ National Reserve held its weekly practice at the Drill Hall, when the following scores were recorded; — Misses H. Ogg 78, D. Boyl© 77, S. Cassells 7G, R. Henderson 7G, N. Knowles 75, D. Wood 75, Mesdames Hoad 75, Frew 74, J. Bradley 73, 15spliu 73, Hay 73, Misses 15. Apes 72, C. Cassells 72, A. Whyman 71. The rifle badge for the highest score was won by Miss H. Ogg, and tho handicap button by Airs Frew. Tho C grade match held at the Drill Hall between D Company and the Ladies’ National Reserve resulted m a win for D Company. The scores were: —D Company: Lieutenant Boycs i 4, Lance-corporal Broadfoot 71, Private Bernard 73, Private Hay 75, Private Simpson 79; total, 372. L.N.R.: Miss Apes 78, Mrs Hav 76, Miss Henderson 71, Mrs Taylor 68, Miss E. Whyman 73; total. 366. In addition to the C grade match against the L.N.R. D Company held a practice shoot at which Sergeant F;tchett secured his second possible this season. The highest scores were:— Sergeant A. R. Fitchett 80. _ 1 nvporrd A. The Dunedin Club opened the season with an A Grade match against the Returned Soldiers’ Small-bore Rifle Club, the match resulting in a draw. Scores: —Dunedin; R. Gillick 80, T. E. Henshelwood 79, G. H. Smith 78, R. Bruce 78, W. Crimp 77, A. Baker 70, F. Marks 76, IV. Lament 76;. total, 620. R.5.A.5.8.C.: R. Bowie 79, O. L. Holden 79, J. Judson 79. W. Goudic 78, T. Alonzies 78, H. A. Edmonds 76, J. Harrison 76, G. H. Burgess 75; total, 620. Tho first of the series of C Grade Championship matches was held at the association’s range in the Drill Hall, Kensington. _ The _ competing teams were;— Tclgineers No. 1 v. Arthur Barnett Club’s first match of the season was fired on Speight's range, when tho A team met Speight’s. The match resulted in a win foy Barnett’s by 5 points, tbc scores being:—Barnett’s : Graham 80, Gamble SO, Wyllio 79. Fenby 78, Sprague 78, Sou ter 77, Pollock 77, Pullen 76; total; 625. ■Speight’s: A. APDonald 79, AUCartncy 79, Maleolmson 79. Greeuslade 78. Bird 78. Pettett 77, S. APDonald 75, G. APDonald 75 ; total, 620. In tho C Grade competition Barnett’s defeated D.S.A. by a fair margin, the scores being:—Barnett’s: Alisses Robinsou 79, Dale 75, Oliver 74, Jones 74, Broughau 71; total, 373. D.S.A. : Lorraine 70, Douglas 70, Ball 68, Wyber 67, Moody 06; total. 341. In Barnett’s weekly handicap shoot Aliss Robinson was successful in winning the badge after a _shoot-off with J. Higgins and C. APNish. During the week possibles were recorded by W. Graham. C. Gamble, J. Pullen, and V. Fenbv, but owing to pressure of time the shoot-off for the Possible Badge was held over till nest Thursday. The following were the best scores off the rifle:—Fenby 80, Gamble, Robson, Graham, and Aliss Robinson 79, APNish 78, Pullen, Sprague, and AVilson .77, Chapman and Denton 76, Pollock, Bradley, and Aliss Dale 75, Armstrong, Ferguson, Peterson, Murdock, Aliss Oliver and Aliss .Tones 74, Aliss Brougham Aliss Woodbury, and Churchill 71, Higgins 70.
