THE THIRD IN THE HOUSE
WIFE SEEKS RECONCILIATION MOTHER-IN-LAW ALLEGEDLY THE TROUBLE [Pek United Pcess Association.] AUCKLAND, May 11.. “ With no mother-in-law in the picture 1 am sure I could live happily with my husband, and I want to try again,” said Endora Emily Pallant. (Mr Spence) in making an application in the Supremo Court to-day before Mr Justice Callan for the restitution of conjugal rights. The respondent was Harold Pallant, who did not appear. The petitioner said she was married in Auckland on December 24, 1934. There were no children. Before their marriage, witness said, she and her husband had been engaged for a long time. The latter had given up a good position, on which ho could have married, to look after his mother. This had led to an estrangement, and her husband had promised before marriage that he would never bring his mother into their married life. After their marriage, witness said, her mother-in-law frequently visited their home and subsequently stayed with them. Witness repeatedly protested to her husband, who replied that his first duty was not to his wife, but to Ins mother, and that witness could leave if she did not like it. Witness said that in November last her husband took steps to obtain a legal separation, and sbe went to live with her sister. In addition to herself, her father, mother, and brother had attempted to make her husband see reason and the wrong ho was doing. Jn answer to His Honour, witness said she did 'not know whether her mother-in-law's health would permit her to live alone. Medically her mother-in-law was supposed to be sound, but she was morbid. His Honour said tho position was a highly unusual one, and be would take time to consider his decision. Ho would ask counsel, in support of his application, to submit legal argument to him in writing.
