POLITICAL JARGON
Mr A. P. Herbert hopes to deflate the pomposity of politicians with the pin of ridicule. He has begun a campaign against the outworn cliche, _ and it should be quite a joyous affair, since Mr Herbert has his own methods of setting about it. The first of his victims is Captain Ramsay, the honourable member for Peebles, who_ has set down a parliamentary motion in which occurs the phrase. “to explore every avenue.” A. P. Herbert has promptly put down an amendment to leave out those words and to submit for them the phrase, “ leave no stone unturned.’ He quickly found 20 members to back bis amendment.
