FASHION FOR EPITAPHS
Fashion in epitaphs has fluctuated in various ages between rank verbosity and masterly condensation. In an exhibition of present-day calligraphy and illumination opened recently in London, there is, however, a tombstone inscription which for sheer brevity sets a new standard in the industry. It was engraved in shorthand. Not everybody, says the ‘ Daily Mail,’ would wish to bo commemorated' with such extreme economy, of style, but there is no reason why the shorthand epitaph should not commend itself to the big business man. for example, as a posthumous link with office routine and the indispensable Miss Jones.
