CONFERENCE OF DELEGATES FIJI TEAM'S VISIT [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, April 30. Delegates from all parts of New Zealand were present at the conference of the New Zealand Women’s Hockey Association, which was opened to-day. Mr M. F. Luckic welcomed the delegates and commented on the increase in the number of players during the last few years. Mr W. Throp was elected chairman for the ensuing year. A motion that tho rule dealing with the grading of referees should be altered to read: “Provided that a certificate shall be issued on the basis of the practical pass gained,” was moved by the Auckland delegate (Mr Harris), who said the certificate should ho based on an actual test, as it was what an umpire did on the field that counted, not what he wrote on paper.—-The motion was lost.
A second motion proposed by Auckland' was to the effect that, after each theoretical examination, the candidates’ papers be returned to them for their information or that a specimen test paper showing the correct answers to the questions set be supplied to all associations concerned for tho instruction of candidates.—The motion was lost. A motion that referees he instructed to enforce rules 12c and 12e more stringently was passed. It was hoped to reduce the number of painful accidents due directly to rising balls intention,ally struck or otherwise.
It was also decided that in future during and prior to all tournaments the Tournament Committee arrange meetings of umpires to consider matters relating to umpiring, and arrange if possible uniformity of rulings. The question whether a side should have the right of appeal against the rulings of referees on “ matters of fact ” at future tournaments when direct evidence of wrongful _ decisions could be produced by protesting teams was debated on a motion proposed by tho Akitio delegate.—Several delegates opposed the motion, which was lost. The abolition of the reverse stroke was not agreed to. It was resolved that the stroke be allowed, and that its use bo referred to tho International Federation if the association affiliated with it. It was resolved to make inquiries from the federation about affiliation.
It was announced that the association's invitation to a Fiji team to tour New Zealand had been accepted. The New Zealand Association had suggested that the team arrive at Auckland on July 6, and depart on August 18.
A decision to postpone inviting an Australian team to visit New Zealand next year until after the Fiji team’s tour was reached.
It was decided that players might wear skirts or tunics, but not divided skirts. Short stockings might bo worn except with tunics, when long stockings would be compulsory. At the annual meeting of the association officers were elected as follows:—Patroness, Viscountess Galway; president, Mr G. C. Hamilton (Gore); hon. secretary, Mrs J. H. Poulter; hon. treasurer, Miss E. Laycock; assistant secretary, Miss I. M. Pearce; hon. auditor, Mr A. C. Geddis; Executive Committee—Misses A. Yorston, M. Slater, Mrs K. Donald, Messrs-F. Twiss and E. Harris.

Aitken ‘had the better of the match from the start.
