BOYS' CRICKET

OTAGO ASSOCIATION A committee meeting of the Otago Bovs' Cricket Association was held last Wednesday in the Y.M.C.A. buildings, there being present Messrs M'Pliee, O'Shea, Booth, Lavvson, Hayes, Dunning, Ferguson, and the secretary. Mr O'Shea was elected chairman. The Secretary stated in liis report that for the season 1936 entries were received from the following:—Christian Brothers 3, 0.8.H.5. 10, Kings 5, M'Glashan 3, Carisbrook 1, Kaikorai 1, Dunedin 1, Grange 1, Boys' Brigade I—a, similar number of teams to that played in the previous year. Matches commenced on February 15, and four games had been played. Grounds played on were Logan Park, Littlebourne, and Tonga Park, the wicket on the Inst ground being available by courtesy of the Grounds Committee of the Otago Cricket Association. Mr Booth's services in supervising the matches at Logan Park had been of the utmost importance, while his broadcast talks and publication of results tables bad created interest among the teams. The individual performances in the matches had been of a high standard, particularly with regard to last year's representative players. An important factor in the improved match performances had been the excellent condition of the wickets.

The Rotary Shield was presented by the Ilotary Club to tho High School XII. team" at the Rotary Club dinner on April 9, Mr I awson representing the association. The .Hudson Shield, won by. the Christian Brothers’ High School, is yet to be presented. The Chairman commented on two pleasing features in the report—tho improvement in the wickets and the good performance of last year’s representative players.
