His Honour Mr Justice Kennedy wiH return to Dunedin by the sc coed express to-night. Mr J. E. Macassey left this morn* ing for Timaru. Rev. D. O. Herron was a passenger for Christchurch by the north express this morning. Mr J. H. Boyes has been appointed ftmember of the Teachers’ Superanmi** tion Board as from April 22, according to a ‘ Gazette ’ notice published last night. The registrar of the University of Otago has received advice from the High Commissioner that Dr F. Soper, the new professor of chemistry, will sail from London by the Akaroa on Juno 12.

A Nelson Association message records the death of Mr Walter Thomas Brundell, aged 65, formerly manager of Charles Begg and l Co. at Nelson. He had a long connection with the firm in Dunedin and _ elsewhere, and was prominent in musical circles. Early last month Commander C. D. Arbuthnot, who was senior lieutenantcommander of the cruiser Dunedin in New Zealand in 1932-35, was appointed to H.M.S. Tamar, depot ship at Hongkong. He was promoted to his present rank while on special duty with! the Mediterranean base defences.

The appointment of the following Advisory Committee under the Kinematograpn Films Act was gazetted lash niglxt;—Messrs W. H. Stillwell,' S.M. (chairman), S. H. Craig and R. G. Stewart (representatives of licensed renters). E. J, Righton and J. Robertson (representatives of licensed exhibitors), R. M. Girling Butcher (chief inspector under the Kinematograph Films Act), and F. Johnson (advisory accountant of the Department of Industries and Commerce). The appointments are effective for six months.

High tributes to the splendid services rendered to the Department of Agriculture and to the farming industry of the Dominion as a whole over a long period of years by the retiring Director-General of Agriculture, Dr C. J. Reakes, who relinquished the office yesterday, were paid by the Minister of Agriculture, the Hon. Lee Martin, and other speakers at a gathering of members of the department to bid farewell to Dr Reakes and Mrs _ Reakes. Dr Reakes was presented with a set of veterinary golf requisites, and an armchair, and Mrs Reakes with a couch and handbag.— Press Association.

A Whangarei Press Association telegram states that Mr Charles Collins, a prominent educationist, died yesterday. He was head master of the Wbanga'rei School for 12 years, retiring two years ago. He was a member of the Auckland Education Board, and district coroner. The death of Mr P. G. Neill, an original member of the Otago Harbour Board, • was referred to by the chairman (Mr J. 8., Waters) at last night’s meeting of the board, and on his motion the following resolution was adopted:—" That this board places on record its appreciation of the valuable services rendered to the board and the community in general, by Mr Per rival Clay Neill, as a member in 18741875, of the first Otago Harbour Board, of which he had been for many years the only surviving member, and desires to express its sympathy with his relatives'in their great loss.” A resolution of condolence with the relatives of Mr John .Robertson, formerly engineer and dredgemaster of the dredge Otakou, whose death occurred on Wednesday, was passed by the Otago Harbour Board last night. It was decided to place on record the boards appreciation of the faithful manner m which Mr Robertson had earned out his duties as one of its officers during the past 261 years. .
