TWO MILES COVERED IN GOOD TIME In the eight-oar challenge race at Tauranga for the Somerville Shield the Tauranga Club crew (holders) successfully withstood a challenge by a West End combination during the week-end, when rowing conditions were ideal, and the race over a course of approximately two miles was rowed in excellent time, Tauranga winning by a length. After 250yds the local crew held a small lead. Both crews settled down, rowing 36 strokes to the minute, but Tauranga s powerful crew managed to increase its lead to a length. . t ... ... The Tauranga crew is that which will represent Auckland in the interprovincial eight-oar championship contest at Wanganui on Saturday. Its personnel includes S. Smith (stroke), J. H. Plummer (7), M.
