AMBROSE PALMER BEATEN
KELLY WINS ON TECHNICAL KNOCK-OUT FIGHT STOPPED IN TWELFTH ROUND Pr»si Association—By Telegraph—Copyright SYDNEY April 6. At the Stadium to-night Ambrose Palmer (12.8 J) was technically knocked out in the twelfth round by the American Negro, Leo (“ Deacon ”) Kelly (12.1), in the presence of a very large crowd. Palmer boxed with his usual skill and cleverness until the eighth, when he seemingly had a comfortable points lead. He then received a severe cut under the right eve, and an old wound above the left eye was also opened, from which blood streamed down his face, severely handicapping him and placing him at the mercy of bis hard-hitting opponent, who punished the Australian _ champion as he had never been punished before. Palmer was down for eight in the tenth round, when he was saved by the bell. He never rallied properly afterwards, and the fight was stopped in the twelfth, Kelly being crowned the winner.
