ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS
CHILD CRUSHED UNDER LORRY. A Hawera Association message states that Brian Hurley, the four-year-old son of R. A. Hurley, of Hawera, was crushed to death under his father’s lorry at Pihama on Saturday afternoon. The boy was travelling with his father in the cab of a lorry when the door flew open, precipitating him on to the road. He rolled beneath the wheels, one of which passed over his head, his skull being crushed and his neck broken. An inquest was held at Opunake yesterday, and Mr R. S. Sage (coroner) returned a verdict of accidental death, no blamo being attached to the father. A subsequent examination of the cab door showed that the catch was in good order. RAILWAY CLERK FOUND HANGING. A Rotorua Association message states that the body of Charles George Foreman (32), a railway booking clerk stationed at Rotorua, was discovered last evening hanging from the bars of a window in the parcels office at the station. A doctor and the police were summoned immediately, but life was extinct. Deceased had worked at the office during the afternoon in company with another clerk and appeared to be in reasonably good spirits. He leaves a family of two young children. CYCLE COLLIDES WITH COW. When a motor cycle crashed into a stray cow in Hawera at 11.30 on Saturday night August Dombroski, of Eltham, the driver, and John Ridley, of Normanby, pillion rider, both farm hands, were taken to Hawera Hospital suffering from concussion. Dumbroski was fairly seriously hurt, but an inquiry last night revealed that the condition of both men was satisfactory. The cow’s neck was broken.
