When lengthened by 30ft two years ago the steamer City of Dieppe, at present unloading American cargo at Port Chalmers, was equipped with the overhang bow which is now a feature of the design of modern liners. In a general way the newer type of bow resembles the old clipper bow, the main difference probably being that it falls away more quickly below the waterline than was the case in the older model. The general effect of the modern innovation is that the vessel rises more readily to the head sea than docs the straight stemmed liner. “ The ship makes better weather,” an officer of the City of Dieppe told a ‘ Star ’ reporter. ‘‘.She lifts far better, and rides over a big sea with a bird-like motion, instead of diving through it.” The postal authorities advise that the Tymeric left Port Kembla for Auckland on Friday last with four bags of Australian mail for Dunedin, which should reach the local office about the week-end.

Lovers of art should not miss the opportunity of seeing the loan collection of lithographs from the Senefelder Club, London, that is being displayed in the Art Gallery at Logan Park. There are 72 prints, covering a wide range of subjects in both black and white and colour, and the work is all of a high standard, many artists of note being represented. The exhibition provides a chance of studying what can be accomplished in this very interesting branch of an art that has not attracted the attention among New Zealand artists that it merits. Some of the ,oted artists who have contributed are Frank Brangwyn, 11. A., Augustus John, R.A., J. M'Clurc Hamilton, C. H. Shannon, It.A., H. G. Hampton and E. Blanipied, R.E., and G. Spencer-Pryse. Tin exhibition is open daily from 10 a.m to 5 p.m.
