MORNINGTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE

The first meeting for 1936 of the Mornington School Committee was held in the school on Monday last, Mr A. G. Osborne presiding. The passing of His late Majesty King George V., the late janitor, Mr Green, and -the late Mrs Harvev was honoured in silence. The resignation of the secretary, Mr J. P. Sainsbury, from the committee was received with regret. Mr F. Tombs was appointed secretary. The C/lner Postmaster thanked the scholars, and particularly the school band, for their contributed eflort on behalf of the health stamp campaign. The flower show will be held at the school on the afternoon and evening of Thursday, March 12. In addition to the exhibits there will be a display of school craft, and in the evening vocal and choral items. _ . _ The head master. Mr G. A. Turner, reported that the school _ was well established in grade 78, with able chance of attaining grade’ i U ilia soliool was opened on I 4 6Druary o« Owing to the readmission of the five-year-olds the enrolment was very, heavy, as followslnfant departments, 81 ; standard classes, 7; total, 88. Withdrawals, including Form 11. of 1930, .were 76, giving an increase of 12 over the roll of December, 1935. The present roll is 674. The eommittee regretted losing Mr Cohn Griffiths from the staff and welcomed Mr Eric Greenall. The head master tendered bis resignation from the staff, to take effect from the end of the present term His loss will be greatly felt not only at tha school, but in the whole district. Best wishes for Mr Turner's improved health will follow him in his retirement.
