The fundamental difference between the new process and any of its predecessors is .that instead of a size finish the back of the carpet is permeated by a form of rubber, which anchors each tuft as securely as if it had been tied by hand, and permits the carpet to be' cut to any size or shape without recourse to sewing, binding, or flat-taping. • • . SEEMINGLY SEAMLESS However spacious or irregular in plan a room or other space may be, it can 1 be carpeted with “ FIRMODA ” without giving the appearance of. being covered by strip-carpet. The impression gained is one of a smooth, un- ’ broken expanse of luxurious pile. “ Seamless effect ” is obtained by the widths or pieces being fitted tightly together and bound permanently by a special binding. The secret of the new process is the method by which the resilient backing is deposited in—not merely on—the back of the fabric, with which it becomes completely integral, preventing fraying as effectively as a selvidge. Tests have shown most conclusively that even long immersion in oil or spirit will not separate the rubber from the fabric, nor will this occur when the pile has been completely removed by wear. WEARING CAPABILITIES There is no possibility of the joins becoming apparent with wear, as is liable with an ordinary seam carpet. On the contrary, the result of wear is to weld the pile together into an even more solid surface. Obviously sections of various colours may be joined in this way, in any desired pattern. • © DAMAGED PORTIONS REPLACED In the case of stains, burns, or similar damage, the affected parts may be cut out and replaced with patches of the same material. In places such as projections, pillars, doorways, unusual angles in recesses, etc., where even broad loom carpets would have, to be cut and sewn, leaving visible joinings, “ FIRMODA ” can be fitted to look absolutely complete. o © EASILY CLEANED The specially processed back is impervious to grit and dirt, and so is easily vacuumed.
