MISSION SITE MAY REVEAL GOLD

PAPUAN PROBLEM FOR CHURCH Because <it may mean selling the mission station and moving to a different site, the Methodist Missionaiy Society is watching with interest the result of gold prospecting activities on the island of Misima, Papua. According to Rev. R. J. Andrews, at the annual meeting of the society in London, portion of the lode of gold believed to exist in the island is thought to run through the church property. As the church does not engage m trading activities, and would not work the mine itself, it would have to consider the position of the station if the presence of gold on the island is definitely established. The mission has been on its present site from 30 to 40 years. “We would have to consider the question of protection of the religions and spiritual side of our activities,” said Rev. J. W. Burton, president cf the society.
