EXTENSION OF DOCK fPEB United Press. Association.] AUCKLAND, February 11. The tender of Mr W. Williamson, contractor, of Christchurch, the sum of £‘2.489 for the work of extending the Calliope dock was accepted by the Auckland Harbour Board to-day. The work, it is stated, will be begun almost immediately. The extension to the dock is being made to accommodate the two huge new cruisers, the Leander and the Achilles, which are shortly to replace the Dunedin and the Diomede on the New Zealand naval station. Ihe plans provide for the lengthening ol the dock floor an additional I.sft involving the excavation of about I.BUU cubic yards of sandstone. Ihe concrete work, which is to he completed within four months of the date of its commencement, is , pai't °* the major scheme for improving the naval defences of New Zealand.
