ANGLO-RUSSIAN RELATIONS
SIGNS OF RAPPROCHEMENT FRANCE KEENLY INTERESTED Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright PARIS, January 31. The French Press is keenly interested in yesterday’s London conversations between M. Litvinoff, Mr Baldwin, and Captain Eden. * The ‘ Figaro ’ says the conversations are a sequel to the recent long private talks between M. Litvinoff and Captain Eden at Geneva, adding that they show the importance which Russia attaches to relations with Britain—relations “ which are becoming closer in view of their common preoccupation—namely, the question of Germany and Japan.” ‘ L’Oeuvre ’ says: “ M. Litvinoff also attended Captain Eden’s Foreign Office luncheon in honour of Marshal Tukashevski, Soviet Vice-Minister of Defence. This manifestation of AngloRussian rapprochement is an event of considerable importance.” Other French papers similarly comment, and all emphasise that Anglo-R-ussian relations appear to ho entering on a. phase of greater cordiality.
