CHRISTCHURCH WOOL SALE

CORRIEDALE CLIP FETCHES 20iD RECORD FRIGE FOR SEASON [Per United Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, January 27. There was a keen demand tor all classes of wool at the second Christchurch sale. On the opening cr*alogue super, wools showed a hardening tenrecord price for the season (20[d) was paid early in the second catalogue for the best of a Corriedale clip from Lammermoor. In the first catalogue 19Jd waa paid for the best of a Rydal Downs Cornedale entry. Another 11 bales fetched 17]d, six went at 16d, and pieces went at 16Jd and 15Jd. There was keen competition for comparatively few lines of cross-bred. The wool offering at the sale represented the best of the Canterbury clips. The quality of the offering was very good, except that some clips contained a fair amount of dust. The passings were few, a Continental and local buyers were active in the market for finer wools, with Bradford, America, and Japan providing steady competition. At the close of the riiarning’s sale fine half-breds were up by Id on the sale in December, and exceptional lots were up to 2d better, though these were few and far between. Pieces were commanding a better sale. Compared with the December sale, the bidding was much freer all round, and it could be described as a very lively saJp. The allocation of 28,000 bales for the sale was filled, and. as the passings continued to be few throughout the morning, it' was evident that there would be a good clearance.
