RUN DOWN BY TRAIN. While carrying a milk can and wheeling a bicycle on a short cut over the railway a quarter of a mile from the Gleneclen station, Claude Hack (17) was struck by a mixed train at 7 this morning and Aas killed instantly, states a P.A. message from Auckland. The body, which was badly mutilated, was carried over 50ft. It is understood that the whistle blew before the accident. BATHING FATALITIES, Bathing in the Hutt River at Maoribank yesterday afternoon, James Samuel Sampson, a clerk, single, aged 27 years, of 35 Owen street. Newtown, Wellington, was drowned. He went to Upper Hutt with a picnic party, and when it was noticed that he had disappeared, several members of the party dived in attempts to find him. The body was later discovered at the bottom of the river in 30ft of water. Artificial respiration was tried, but failed. An overseer of tho unemployment scheme under the Lands Department, Frank Henry Milsom, aged about 35 years, was drowned at 4.30 yesterday afternoon while swimming with his three children in the Hairini Estuary (Auckland). He disappeared suddenly, “and the children quickly gave the alarm. Other swimmers dived repeatedly, and a search was made from a dinghy, but without result. [A message' received to-day states that the body was recovered at 5 o’clock this morning, half a mile from where the deceased disappeared.] MOTOR CYCLIST KILLED. A motor cyclist named lan Duncan M'Rae, 19 years of age, collided with a trailer drawn by a motor car on the main northern highway near Kawakawa/(Auckland) yesterday. He received serious injuries and was removed to the Kawakawa Hospital, where ho died a short time later. TANK STAND COLLAPSES.

The collapse this afternoon of a heavy timber stand supporting a 400gallon water tank resulted in severe injuries to two brothers, Cebedor Sunde, aged seven years, and Robert Snnde, aged two, sons of Mr F. Sunde, of Gratia. The boys were playing outside their home near the tank when the stand, about five feet in height, gave way. The. lads were pinned underneath the stand, both suffering severe head injuries. The elder .boy also received a broken leg. The heavy tank, which was almost.full, crashed to the ground only a foot away from them, it struck heavily, and was severely rent. The boys’ parents were absent at a funeral. Medical assistance was summoned by neighbours, and the boys were later admitted to the Auckland Hospital. The condition of the younger one is serious. ARM BROKEN. As the result of a sedan car skidding and striking a tree on the river road on Saturday evening Miss Mabel Macdonald is in the hospital, her injuries including a broken arm and cuts. A motorist, Jack Diamond, who was fully clothed, entered the • water at Kohimarama this morning, and rescued a boy who was in difficulties. Jack Hewitt, aged 12, had been swimming alone when the wind carried his waterball to sea and he swam after it, but became exhausted and his plight was serious. Diamond, who was driving in the direction of the city, saw the boy’s hands above the water, 30 yards out and went to his help. Diamond was hampered considerably in his rescue work by the weight of his soaked clothing.
