Fawcett, one of Australia’* best-known golfers, collapsed and died when playing at Rose Bay on Saturday. He won the New South Wale* amateur championship in 1928, the Victorian amateur championship in 1921, and many other important contests. SISTER MARY GERTRUDE The death of Sister (Mary Gertrude)' Chitty, of St. Dominic’s Priory, yesterday has made a break which it will be difficult to fill. Her associates al| the priory speak very highly of heij large fund of sympathy and under-. standing for others, not only of hej* own religion, but of all denominations^ The daughter of well-known landowners at Dover, Sister Gertrude was born there is 1856, and later went'td France for her education. About 50 years ago she came to New Zealand and lived with her brother, Mr Walter Chitty. who had taken up land in tha Waikato. In her earlier life Sister Gertrude was an Anglican, but shortly after coming to the Dominion she became a convert to Catholicism and entered the priory at Dunedin, where she has remained ever since. She was a highly cultured woman and an expert musician, her talent for languages and music being turned to account at the institution, where she was highly popular with both pupils and nuns.
