TO PROMOTE HEALTH

WELFARE OF THE CHILDREN DEPARTURE FOR WAIKOUAITI CAMP One hundred and twenty-five children whose health it is considered will be benefited considerably by a period at the camp established by the Otago Children’s Health Camp Association at Waikouaiti, assembled at the Frst Church' ground early this afternoon, and left for the camp tinder the charge of a number of helpers. Among those present to see the departure of the children were Lady Ferguson (president of the association), and Lady Hutchison (a vice-president). Four years ago the first camp was held, and was attended by 50 children. The benefits of the scheme were very quickly apparent, and each year an increased number has been accommodated. The number this year establishes a record. The majority of the children belong to Dunedin, but there are also 25 from Oamaru, six from Clyde, seven from Balclutha, and one from Mosgiel. The children from Oamaru are being sent by arrangement with the Oamaru Children’s Welfare Society, but the children from the country districts are eligible for the camp, as the funds collected from these places under the health camp scheme are included in the total for tho Dunedin district. During a stay of a month at Waikouaiti, the children will be under the charge of Mrs Marshall Macdonald, who is honorary supervisor and organiser, and who has a band of willing helpers. In referring to the organising of the camp. Mrs Macdonald made grateful reference to the donation of malt extract from Wilson’s Malt Extract Company, which had been for-' warded to the camp. This firm, she said, had made a similar donation each year, and this had been greatly appreciated by the committee. To-morrow afternoon a visit will be paid to the camp by the Hon. F. Jones (Postmaster-General), who has, been a vice-president of the association since its commencement.
