RAID ON CLUB

THIRTY-SIX MEN ARRESTED [Pee United Peess Association.] WELLINGTON, January 4. A police raid was carried out early this morning on the premises known as the New Century Club, in Courtenay Place. The whole of the Wellington detective staff participated in the raid, and 36 arrests were made. Eleven of those arrested pleaded guilty in the court to-day to being found on the premises. Three charged with assisting in the running of the establishment were remanded to appear on Monday, when charges against 22 others ,at present on bail will be heard. Those who pleaded guilty to-day were each fined £2, with costs (10s). Detective-ser-geant L. Revell,. who prosecuted, said that when the. detectives entered gaming was in progress. . Tho men were hazards, and a large quantity of gaming material was seized.
