SURF REPORTS

•STATE OF BEACHES EFFECTS OF RECENT WINDS The recent' winds have had. their effect upon some of the local beaches, especially at St. Clair, where a good deal of sand has been carried away, the beach not being in such good condition to-day as has been the case during the last few week-ends. / The sea is fairly rough, and there is a rip towards St. Kilda, with one or two holes not far off shore; Bathers are warned to keep between the flags. The beach at St.-Kilda is not so bad, however, though there have been one or two slight nps in evidence. A fairly heavy sea is running. The beach is in good order at Tomahawk, and the sea is moderate. Bathers should keep between the flags, as conditions are liable to alter with the winds. The open-water pools at St.. Clair and Kaikorai have been particularly popular over the holidays.. The erection of the retaining wall at St. Clair Baths has sheltered the pool, and the water is warmer than has been the case in the surf, the temperature at present being 62deg. The attendance over the holidays has been the largest for-some years. The Kaikorai Baths, which are situated a short distance from the Boslyn cable car terminus, have been described as constituting one of the prettiest fresh-water pools in the Dominion, and they have- attained considerable popularity during the present holidays.
