'BLACK SHEEP' AT GRAND

TRIUMPH FOR EDMUND LOWE ‘ Black Sheep ’ is the title of Edmund Lowe’s latest screen presentation, which opened a season at the Grand. this morning in company with ‘lt’s a Small World” The story is an interesting and unusual one. Edmund Lowe, a professional ship gambler, teams up with Claire Trevor, an actress who is returning home from her first trip abroad. _ Adrienne Ames, a wealthy kleptomaniac, is blackmailing Tom Brown, a wealthy Boston youth, to smuggle in some stolen pearls. Eugene Pallette and Jed Prouty, rich playboys, play cards with Lowe and Miss Trevor, the latter always winning. In spite of the fact that the ship’s detective, a very comic individual, keeps a close watch on Lowe, he succeeds in getting Tom out of a difficult situation, placing the stolen pearls so that Adrienne Ames is caught, and then he falls in love with Claire Trevor. Edmund Lowe is said to have reached a new peak of popularity as the result of the depth he gives to the characterisation in ‘ Black Sheep,’ and the beauteous ‘ Claire Trevor should reach the front rank of favourites this year. Tom Brown and Adrienne Ames play their roles with great sincerity, while Herbert Mundin, Eugene Palette, and Jed Prouty go far to make the comedy really hilarious. The supporting film, ‘ It’s a Small World,’ stars Spencer Tracy, Wendy Barrie, and Raymond Wnlburn, and is a comedy that should be enjoyed by all types of audiences.
