The figures for the corresponding week last year were 140 killed and 3,895 injured. The policy of providing tracks for pedal cyclists, separated from the main" carriageway, is followed in two schemes for road improvement just authorised by the Ministry of Transport, and estimated to cost more' than £38,000. The needs of large numbers of cyclists who use the road from Preston to the Lancashire coast will be -met by one scheme, while in the second case the plans for a new by-pass road in Nottinghamshire include the provision of dual carriageways.
