EDUCATION BOARD'S RESOLUTION [Pek United Piiess Association.] INVERCARGILL, November 22. . A general statement giving, 'the Southland Education Board’s attitude towards the granting of special holidays to children was made by the chairman, Mr S. Rice, at tbo monthly meeting of the board to-day. “ While appreciating to the full the visit of his Excellency the GovernorGeneral, and while the board has every sympathy with his request that the school children should be, granted a holiday, in view of the difficult year that lias been experienced, with epidemics and in view of the number of holidays that have already been granted it is thought inadvisable to grant a holidays this year,” the chairman said. Mr Rice said that the schools should be instructed that no holidays except statutory holidays and those at the committee’s disposal for local requirements were to be granted. It was decided to communicate with head masters to this effect.
