For the purpose of honouring one of the oldest bandsmen in New Zealand, a reunion of former members of the Otago Regimental Band will be held on! Friday evening next in the' M.U.1.0.0.F. Hall. The ' guest - 66 honour will be Sergeant Percy C. • . George, who, although- nearly 80 years of age, is still an active member of the band. Born in London in 1856, Sergeant George arrived in New Zealand witli his parents at the age qf eight. He joined the Middle District School Cadets in 1870, and the following year he transferred to the Dunedin Navals. He joined the Artillery Band in 1874. and served with it for four ' years, after which he became a tnember. of the City Guards Band. When the Ist Battalion Band was formed in 1880; Sergeant George was appointed bandmaster of it, and he held ;that position until 1883, when_ lie joined the Garri- t sou Band under "Bandmaster Wishart, He is still a member of that band, which is now known as the Band of the Ist Battalion, Otago Regiment.
