Emperor Haile Selassie, undisturbed by the throat of war, which hung early in September over his country, opened a fruitshop in the centre of his capital to sell produce from his model farm. At this shop Europeans and Americans may get high-grade bananas, oranges, strawberries, and other products. Situated on tlie Franco-Ethiopian railway, the Emperor’s farm is the first of its hind in Ethiopia. Here the progressive sovereign is cultivating a large tract of former waste land to show his people the (possibilities of their fertile plateau. The expert Italian agriculturist formerly in charge has been replaced by a native.
