MR DOWNIE STEWART’S CANDIDATURE.
TO THE EDITOR. | Sir, —The electors will not' fall for the - political eye-wash which appeared to-night over the very doubtful nom- . do-plume of “West Dunedin Catholic.’* ■ Rather do I think that the rational citizens of Dunedin will mark it down as a mischievous attempt to drag’ religion into politics in order fo sava Dunedin West from its Nationalist grave. In order to disprove tba opinion I hold and hundreds of others, I invite your correspondent to publish his name in order that the public to whom he appeals may' judge for itself whither “ Wbst Dunedin Catholic ” ia honest in his intentions. If he does not accept the invitation, we can only, conclude that he is not a Catholic, or,, for that matter, a ; Presbyterian. I would also remind “West Dunedin Catholic” that the last miscreant to introduce sectarianism into politics re. ceived a public horse-whipping—a sufli. cient reminder for anyone.—l am, etc., Chbistian. ; November 21. , .
