RAINS The following weather forecast was issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the south-* ern district;—Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, River* ton, Orepuki, Bluff, Halfmoon Bay,:—* An anti-cyclone now covers the Ncvr Zealand area, but a depressioh is advancing across the South Tasman Seai Forecast: Freshening north ■to west winds. Weather clouding over and scattered rains developing. Temperatures mild. Seas moderate, but rising in the Foveaux Strait area. OVERCAST BUT WARM.. Overcast skies towards noon replaced a clear and sunny early morning to* day. The unreliability of the_ weather can be gauged from a comparison with, yesterday’s conditions, which gave every promise of remaining settled* Though dull it was,quite warm, at noon to-day, and there was just a suggest tion of a north-east breeze. The barometer had fallen since noon but it was steady and still high at 29.6,; , though it was evident that there was a| rainy change in the .offing. Temperatures were high, the maximum reading at midday being 63deg and' the mini-' mum recording 55deg. Yesterday’s respective temperatures were 63deg and 46.2 deg.
