ALL SEXUAL CASES

JUDGE’S COMMENT ON CRIMINAL CALENDAR [Per United Press Association.] INVERCARGILL, August 13. The Supreme Court opened before Mr Justice Kennedy, who remarked that all the criminal charges on the calendar were of a sexual nature. Referring to the case of unlawful use of an instrument, the judge said: “ Unfortunately there frequently appears to he in these cases neglect of ordinary cleanliness and proper precautions which leads to septicaemia, with the result that the unfortunate woman operated on either dies or is the victim of a very grave illness. The law was no doubt framed for other purposes, but its enforcement may protect poor women, and prevent them from trusting their lives with calamitous results to those who are serving them for their money and not through humanity.” True bills were returned in all cases.
