OXFORD GROUP MOVEMENT
“HOUSE PARTY " RELIGION FIRST DOMINION FUNCTION [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, August 12. “ House party religion,” a phrase coined to describe one method adopted by the Oxford Group Movement for “ life changing ” in acordance with Christian principles, is coming to Wellington. A national “ honse party ” 'is to take place at the Midland Hotel, beginning on August 28 and continuing until September 2. Although small parties have already been held elsewhere in the Dominion, this will be the first thing of its kind on a large scale here. The power behind the organisation of the Oxford Group Movement in New
Zealand is a Cambridge student, the Hon. Miles Phillimore, a son of Lord Phillimore, of Henley-on-Thames. This young man has dedicated his life to the work, and New Zealand is his chosen sphere. The house party will be attended, it is expected, by about 200 people. “It is not a public party,” he said, each guest having been privately invited to be present. Many professions will be represented, and people will be coming from nearly all parts of the Dominion. The party atmosphere will be provided by the association together of the guests at the hotel. We have booked the conference hall for the more formal aspect of the party.”
