ORATORICAL CONTEST

To-morrow night the citizens of Dunedin will have the opportunity of hearing the pick of New Zealand University students orate in the Town Hall Concert Chamber on the occasion of the Bledisloe Medal oratorical contest. This medal ■ was presented by Lord Bledisloe (former Governor-General of New Zealand) to be contested for triennially by the University Colleges of New Zealand. The subjects are chosen by the entrants from either some outstanding character or event in New Zealand’s history. The subjects for this contest ■ are ‘Te Raupafaha,’ ‘ Hauhauism,’ ‘ The Introduction of Western Culture into the Midst of the Maori,’ ‘ The Pioneer Crossing of the Whitcombe Pass,’ ‘ Lord Rutherford— Scientist and Man,’ ‘ Dominion Day, 1907.’ ‘Te Kooti,’ and ‘ James Edward Fitzgerald.’ The contest should be most interesting and instructive.
