Reid’s elevation to the magistracy (says a Blenheim message) is the. fact that he is a son, of a former magistrate, whilst the family have been connected with the administration' of 4he Taw in the dominion for the last 50 years. ' Mr Reid’s father, Mr L. G. Reid, of Wellington, was formerly a Crown law officer, and subsequently a stipendiary magistrate in the ■ Wairarapa_. Sir' James Prendergast, who was Chief Justice for many years, was the new magistrate’s great uncle, and an uncle, the late.Mr W. S. Reid, was Solicitor-Gene-ral for ah Extended period. ’ . Mr Reid has been engaged in the legal profession since 1910, except for an interruption due to war service. Ho is 43 years of age, and was educated at the Terrace School, Wellington College, and Victoria University College. Ha came to Blenheim in 1920 as managing clerk to the firm of Connolly, Burden, and Churchward, In. 1924, he becama a partner in the firm, and the following year was admitted as a barrister. He married Miss Pearl Vavasour, al daughter of Mrs. Vavasour, of Ugbrooke, and the late Mr H. D. Vavasour. . , . Aa a popular and prominent citizen and sportsman, Mr Reid will be greatly, missed in the community.
