BURNED IN HER BED

OLD WOMAN PERISHES AGED MAN RESCUED (Put United Press Association.] OAMARU, June 30. Soon after midnight on Saturday neighbours discovered that the dwelling owned and occupied by Mrs Emmeline Lockwood at Reidston was blazing fiercely. They rushed across and rescued Frederick R. R. Cullimore, who also lived there, by pulling him through the window, but Mrs Lockwood perished in the flames. Mrs Lockwood was an old woman aged 83, and was able to move about only slowly. Her body was seen lying between the rails of an iron bedstead, which collapsed to the floor. The rescuers were unable to get near the body because of the intense heat. Cullimore, who is aged about 84, was burned about the hands, neck, and head, and was sent to hospital. His condition, on account of his age, is very serious.
