AMATEUR ATHLETICS

WOMEN'S LONG JUMP RECORD {Pm United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, June 4. A new record for the New Zealand women’s long jump was passed at tonight’s meeting of the council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association. This was for a distnace of 16ft 6iin, covered by Edna Ruth Munro at Rangiora on April 20. John Vincent Powell’s 2min ISJsec for I,oooyds at Wellington on March 3 was declared equal to the New Zealand record set by Broadway at Christchurch. Applications for reinstatement by John Aliller and Albert George Ockwoll were granted. TRAINING AND COACHING , The finding that, generally speaking, there was a Tack of proper organisation in most centres in connection with coaching, and that the council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association should provide a general plan of coaching and training for the guidance of centres and clubs, was contained in a report received at to-night’s meeting of the council from the sub-committee set up to consider this matter. With a lack of proper organisation overcome and a regular course of tuition provided, it was felt that the standard of performance would be raised considerably. The committee recommended that each district should appoint immediately a coaching and training committee. It was also recommended that each centre should purchase a projector, and that the council should lend training films to the centres in rotation.
