DRAMA OF DEPRESSION
AND MYSTERY PLAY FOR STRAND Writing of ‘ Our Daily Bread,’ which opens at the Strand on Friday, a critic said: Living in a time when there is so much unemployment, so much scepticism regarding the future, and so much perfectly natural apprehension as.' to the outcome of the nations, we .need to have our hearts refreshed and our physical powers strengthened by seeing what can be done in a time of emergency. After seeing 4 Our Daily Bread ’ one leaves it with the thought that we have not trusted Mother Earth as we should, and have not Had that, faith in mankind that we ought to have. In the face of almost insurmountable difficulties, a group of men and women, living lonesome lives, unfamiliar with the ways of the farm,' by united effort conquered the stubborn soil and even defeated the efforts of adverse weather conditions to accomplish their purpose. If there is sympathy and understanding in the hearts of men, this picture will be widely commented upon and prove a magnet for multitudes. It should be seen by every citizen. Karen Morley and Tom Keene have the leading roles. An additional attraction Will .be a mystery “thriller” entitled ‘ Secret of the Chateau.’-
