VANDALS IN STUDIO
PAINTINGS SLASHED WITH KNIVES OUTRAGE IN MONTREAL Press Association —By Telegraph —Copyright ■ MONTREAL, May 16. Three vandals raided the studio of Michael Califano, a prominent painter. They beat him till he was unconscious, and with knives destroyed a score or more of oil paintings, which were described as the artist’s life work and valued at 100,000dol. As Califano bitterly caricatured Herr Hitler, his relatives believe that the attack was the work of Nazi sympathisers. He had widely distributed anti-Nazi postcards bearing the title ' The Ignominy of the Twentieth Century ’ for the benefit of Jewish refugees. A large oil painting df Herr Hitler was completely obliterated except an arm raised for, a Nazi salute. •
