MONTHLY MEETING ■ The committee of the Otago A. and P. Society held its monthly meeting on Thursday, when there were present—- ! Messrs it. T. Kirk (president, in the chair). J. Hellyer, J. N. Reid. ' Before commencing the business of the meeting the president made feeling reference to the death of Mr William Wright, who was a member of the society, and Mr John Davidson, who had been one of the society’s officiating judges.-—A motion of sympathy was passed with the relatives. GENERATE. 'The various sub-committees submitted a list of judges for the forthcoming show.—Approved. Accounts amounting to £153 8s 8d were passed for payment. The Committee which-was appointed to .revise the rules of the society submitted suggested amendments, which it was decided should be dealt with at the committee meeting in July next. The following members ; of committee who arc due to retire by rotation were nominated for re-election:—Dunedin district —Messrs S. Bowman, H. C. Campbell, and John Mee; Bruce and Clntha, Messrs John Allison and Walter Yardley; Taieri district, Messrs R. T. Kirk and J. B. Blair; Waikouaiti and Waihemo, Messrs W. Lee and E. M. North; Central Ofago, Mr James Little; Otago Peninsula. Mr John Hellyer. Mr S. C. Sutherland, who was the fourth retiring member for Dunedin district, forwarded his resignation, which was accepted with regret. CORRESPONDENCE. A letter was received from the Acting Minister of Finance (Hon. Adam Hamilton) accepting the committee’s invitation to officiate at the opening of the show. Mr A. H. Maguire, secretary of the New Zealand Romney Marsh Breeders’ Association, wrote stating that Mr Wheeler, the society’s inspector, would give demonstrations on Romneys at the Winter Show.—lt was reported that .arrangements had been made. The offer of Mr H. Ninnis, station director of 4YA. to relay the opening ceremony and of Messrs Dalget.y and Co. to place their No. 2 store at the

society’s disposal for the period of the show were acknowledged with appreciation. Mr D. Cunningham, dairy produce grader for Dunedin, advised that the following was the result of the annual export cheese competition for the Otago Harbour Board Cup:—Omimi Dairy Factory, 93.637; Kaitangata Dairy Factory, 93.307 ; Milton Dairy Factory, 92.946; Barry’s Bay Dairy Factory, 92.923; Little Akaloa Dairy Factory, 92.814; Stirling Dairy Factory, 92.80 i ; Kelso Dairy Factory, 92.356; and Maungatua Dairy Factory, 91.842.—The secretary said the hi.fb grade marks obtained by each factory and the close finish of the competition was worthy of note. He congratulated Mr T. Y. Aris, the nianager of the winning factory, who had now won the Otago Board Cup outright by obtaining the highest grade points three years in succession. Advice was received from the Forbury Park Trotting Club that the dates of its Summer Meeting would be November 28 and 30, and it was decided to hold the Otago Metropolitan Summer Show on Tuesday and Wednesday. November 26 and 27. In response to a circular from tlic Royal Agricultural Society Messrs George Ross and James Begg were appointed delegates ‘to attend the annual meeting in Wellington. Mr Joseph Mosley wrote in reference to the proposed lifting of the embargo on the importation of live stock from Great Britain and the danger in connection with foot-and-mouth disease. He pointed out that Mr ’William Pierson, who was an authority on the disease, was being invited to give an address during Winter Show Week, and asked that the society, being the leading A. and P. ..association in Otago, should support the proposal.—After Mr Mosley, who was present, had explained tho nature and seriousness of the disease, it was resolved to support the movement to have an address by Air Pierson. NEW MEMBERS. The following new members were elected: —Messrs George A. Bishop, Dunedin; Robert A. Paterson, Waipiata : John IT. Laing, Clyde; M. .Costello, Otokia; Arthur Moynihah, Momona; Charles Shand, Mosgiel; A. Miller, Wright, Stephenson, and Co,, Dunedin; R. G. Hudson, Dunedin; and Robert Allison, Moneymore. Two trophies recently presented to the society were on view, bne a magnificent silver cup presented by the Owaka Co-operative Dairy Company for a box of factory butter suitable for export. the other a solid silver cup valued at £l7 .17s, presented by Nestle and ; Anglo-Swiss Condensed Milk Company for competition in the bakers’ bread section.’ It was decided to write to the two firms expressing thanks for the trophies.
