NORTH OTAGO WOMEN’S CLUB

FOUNDATION MEMBERS r On Thursday of last week a delightful afternoon -was spent in the club lounge when the president, Mrs J. M. .Forrester, entertained foundation members at a first reunion. The room and stake were gay with chrysanthemums and autumn foliage, whilst on the tea tables were vases of the more delicate flowers of the season. The decorations had been most attractively arranged by Mrs T. Kennedy, and by their brightness defied the sombre atmosphere without.

After the singing of the National, Anthem and a pianoforte solo by Mrs A. W. Moss, Mrs Forrester welcomed her guests, and expressed her pleasure that so many were able to be present. She thought it might be of interest to them if she recalled some of the inch? dents of the early days of the club. She related how Mrs Douglas and herself had had several discussions on the matter of the formation, and in memory of these presented to Mrsf Douglas a posy of old-fashioned flowers. She then game a most interesting account of the early history of the club from its formation in 1924, and continuing said that although it was now no longer necessary to doubt the need or the success of the club she reminded members that they could not stand still, and she looked to them to be enthusiastic in forward movements. Mrs Douglas responded on behalf of the club. She took the opportunity to congratulate Mrs Forrester upon receiving the Silver Jubilee Medal. She also impressed, upon members the importance of keenness for the success and well-being of the clnb. The programme was reminiscent of the early days of the club, items being contributed by. Mrs A. W. Moss (piano), Mrs M'Culloch and Mrs A. C. Piper (songs, accompanist. Miss Hood), Mrs Orbell and Mrs F. Jones (Scotch reading), and a play 'reading (‘The Twelve Pound Look,’ arranged by Mrs M'Dowell, with Miss Patterson - and Mrs E. M'Diarmid as readers with her).
