The distilleries and warehouses _of Canada hold approximately 34 million gallons of whisky .and Other spirits, of which 28 millions is sufficiently matured for immediate sale. Most of this stock was distilled in the expectation of an export market, since Canadian consumption of “ hard ” liquor is not heavy. Canadians drink about 1,500,000 gallons a year, of which 500,000 gallons is imported, so that it would take 34 years, at the present rate, to dispose of the stocks, unless .an export market were found.
