CELEBRITY CONCERT TO-NIGHT
Tho -celebrity concert arranged by the New Zealand Broadcasting Board will take place in the Town Hall at 8 o’clock to-night. The board is to he congratulated on its efforts in providing such talented artists to assist. The Christchurch ‘ Press,’ repox-ting on the concert which was held last Tuesday, stated: “The big concert arranged by the New Zealand Broadcasting Board and held in the St. Janies Theatx-e was a great musical treat. There, were tour outstanding artists —Messrs Lionello Cecil, the Australian operatic tenor; Walter Kingsley, the celebrated English baritone; John Robertson, champion cornetist; and Paul Vinogracloff, eminent Russian pianist. These four artists received a wondei-ful ovation, and had to respond to two, three, and four encores. Messrs Cecil and Kingsley in the vocal duets captivated the audience. Mr Robertson’s numbers were outstanding, and never before has such- cornet playing been heard in Christchurch. Paul Vinogradoff, who is not new to Christchurch audiences, gave tho ‘ Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2,’ and at the end of the piece received a great ovation. He had to play two encores before the audience was satisfied.” These four artists will appear at the concert to-night, and they should be well received. Miss Mary Pratt, who will present contralto solos, is always a great favourite. The St. Kilda Band, champions of New Zealand, will accompany Mr Robert-
