YOUNG FOOTBALLER'S DEATH

A RUPTURED KIDNEY [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, May 17. An inquest was held to-day concerning the death in the Lewisham Hospital of a University footballer named Watson, aged 20, who was injured in a Rugby match, third grade, on May 5, The referee said that there was no ill-feel-ing or rough play, and no delay in getting Watson off the field. The player who tackled Watson said they fell clear of one another. The medical evidence was that death had resulted from hemorrhage and rupture of the left kidney. A witness explained how the patient was kept under observation and a blood transfusion was given, and said that an operation was carried out as soon as possible. _

A verdict of death from injuries accidentally sustained while playing football was returned.
